Father’s Day is the perfect time for kids and spouses to show just how much we love all the amazing dads, grandpas, and father figures in our lives. You could go to Target, Walmart, or Amazon and buy a gift… or even help your little one make the selection. Sure, you could buy a card at the grocery store. But what do Dad’s (and Mom’s) really want from their little one? Something handmade, something made with love.
In this post, let’s explore some ideas for you and your kids as you prepare for Father’s Day. Our Montessori program bases itself on many hands-on activities (we call them “manipulables”), so it’s an ideal adjunct to our curriculum. (Sneaking in a little learning is always allowed!).
At Learn and Play Montessori School, we embrace both Montessori and Play-based methods that encourage creativity, independence, and hands-on exploration. Let’s explore some Father’s Day crafts that are fun, meaningful, and easy to create at home. They align with Montessori strategies, giving children the freedom to express themselves while developing fine motor skills, confidence, and a sense of pride. These simple and creative projects are perfect for your little ones and will produce keepsakes Dad will cherish forever!
- Hand Paint Art
Kids’ handprints make great keepsakes. You can turn a handprint into a heartwarming piece of art by painting your child’s hand, pressing it onto a canvas or card, and adding a special message like “Hands down, you’re the best Dad!”
Decorate with markers, stickers, or a simple frame to make it more. This craft idea is not only fun but also creates a memory object, you’ll love looking back on as your child grows up.
- Handmade Cards
Encourage your kids to express themselves through a one-of-a-kind card. Provide folded cardstock, crayons, stickers, stamps, and any other materials that will be fun to use.
They can draw pictures of their favorite moments with Dad, write a sweet message, or even add handprints or footprints inside the card for an extra special touch. No two cards will be the same.
- Custom Ties
Let kids design a neck “tie” that Dad will proudly wear—even if just around the house! Print a blank tie outline on cardstock or cut one out of construction paper. Then, let your child color, paint, and decorate it with drawings, stickers, or even glued-on foam shapes. You can punch holes at the top and tie it with yarn or ribbon, allowing it to be worn. Dad can be a proud and yet formal parent (at least inside the house)
These crafts are more than just cute projects; they are also educational. They are little love notes made with tiny hands and big hearts. Whether your child is creating their first Father’s Day masterpiece or building upon Father’s Days in the past, handmade gifts are the way to go
Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful dads and father figures!
