The season of light and celebrations is upon us once again! It is a time of reflection, of wonder, of appreciation, and peace.
The Montessori curriculum is rich with lessons celebrating peace and diversity. Children are naturally filled with curiosity regarding their world, and Dr. Montessori’s curriculum of global education feeds this curiosity through cultural studies, which encompasses geography, botany, zoology, history, science, art, and music.
In November, children learn about Diwali, the festival of lights. They listen with delight as the story of Sita and Rama is narrated by a teacher.
In December, the children learn about Hanukkah and the significance of the menorah. They play the dreidel game. They sing songs of Kwanzaa and learn about the seven principles of Kwanzaa.
Children learn about the countries that celebrate Christmas. They listen to stories about Las Posadas, a nine-day holiday celebrated in Mexico and some parts of the Southwestern United States.
Children make handmade ornaments to hang in their Christmas trees. They make cards for parents, friends, and loved ones. They learn about St. Lucia’s Day in Sweden, and the traditions practiced on that day.
As the summer season unfolds, we welcome the summertime heat with fun activities that revitalize the children's mind and body!
Water Play Days are from July 6th through July 16th. Children will enjoy water games such as water balloon relay, sponge toss, fill-in-the-bucket race and a lot more.
Our great appreciation to our parent volunteers to make this activities happen.
It was amazing to see the parents, teachers and the room 2 children assembled together in celebrating one of the most memorable moments of their life--the graduation exercises.
With all the preparation, the teaching and learning procedures, time and effort and the wisdom, last Thursday morning of June 4th, all these were put to a celebration day. We witnessed how the children walked to the stage to receive ribbon and certificate for their accomplishment. Adding up to the highlight of the celebration was when the children sang the national anthem, graduation song and the Learn and Play Montessori song composed by our Music teacher. We witnessed happy faces from parents as they take pictures of their children. Everybody deserved a big round of applause! We are happy as one big family here at Niles!
Thank you for being a part of out family!
Happy graduation and congratulations to all!
It's Earth Day! How did you celebrate Earth Day? Here at Niles, the teachers taught a lesson across the curriculum about taking care of the planet earth and its environmental problems and issues. There were classes that made pollution and reforestation posters. The older children prepared a short skit on proper disposal of waste or garbage at school.
Thank you for the Earth Day idea from the late US Senator Nelson who launched this event in 1970. Globally, people are benefiting a lot from it.
The 1st Annual Art Exhibit last April 20th was a great success!
The courtyard looked like an art gallery filled with a wide-variety of artwork from children ages 18 months through 6 years old. From different kinds of lines and curves, scribbling, coloring, tearing of papers and pasting to the clay or wood sculpture are just incredible patterns and images when put together and that these artwork are creations from our own children.
Positive comments from parents and visitors who came to our Open House were our inspiration to serve and care for our children.
Congratulations to the children! Keep up the good work!
Thank you to all parents and teachers for the patience and hardwork you put together to have this kind of event!
Art Exhibit is coming! The children started submitting their artwork today. The courtyard will be filled in with beautifully created and crafted art projects by our young innovators and artists at Niles.
Parents are welcome to view the artwork on Monday, April, 20, 2015 at 3:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M. in the courtyard.
We are proud of our parents and children to be a part of our BIG FAMILY! LAPMS Niles Family!
Science Fair at Niles happened yesterday. Science Fair participants started registering their projects with smiles and excitement on their faces. The courtyard was filled with colorful display boards and projects from rooms 2,3,4 and 5 children. Tables were adorned with souvenir items, giant books on display, and a remarkable array of science materials, from little creatures such as insects to specimen, displays such as rattlesnake skin, sea sponges and bones of animals. One of the highlights of this science fair was the hands-on table where students were able to view slides under the microscope. The raffle added more excitement to the participants. Whenever a ticket was about to be picked, the crowd held their breath as everyone anticipated their ticket numbers to be picked. The parents took pictures and video while their child presented the experiment.
All the hard work and effort from each LAPMS family, every participant, and the LAPMS team made this science fair event a memorable and educational experience not only for our young children, but the parents as well.
Great participation for all! Parent involvement at our school is A+.
Parent turnout for our Science Fair Information Meeting last Friday, March 13, 2015 in the courtyard was exceptional! The overwhelming attendance demonstrates the incredible support from our parents. Supportive parents truly set the groundwork for a successful education.
The scientific method was discussed in detail and samples of the experimental projects were displayed for the parents to view. Science Fair packets, which include important information and experiment guidelines, project ideas, as well as details on the format of the project itself, were distributed and discussed.
Parents, students and teachers are excited about beginning a journey towards discovery! We can't wait to view finished projects and discuss scientific experiences and findings as well as delve into any unanswered questions. Our Scienc Fair Day will be on Thursday, March 26th at 9:30 A.M.-11:30 A.M. in the courtyard where participants will present their projects to parents and children.
Thank you to all our parents for helping us achieve our goal towards academic excellence!
